Open the pellet mill gearbox and you will find the gearbox is submerged in oil. Unlike the ordinary oil, this special kind of oil can lubricate the gear teeth, so the metal-to-metal contact can be kept smooth and easy. After a long running, the oil may grow old. Ensure you get the appropriate oil when change it. Generally, there are two kinds of gearbox oil. One is R&D oil, and the other is EP oil. The first type of oil-R&D oil protects the gearbox against oxidation, or rust. EP oil can maintain the film of the gearbox under high pressure and it can also protect against harmful metal-to-metal contact, so the latter one is more preferred in the market.
