Pellet mill is kind of advanced equipments which can turn waste biomass materials (Agricultural byproducts, wood industrial co-products, animal wastes, etc.) into high value fuel pellets. Especially for the ones who own a farm. In this article we will talk about how to benefit from small pellet mills such as family pellet mills or farm pellet mills. On one hand, pellet mill can help you get rid of garbage problems on the farm or at home, and on the other, it can help saving life expense. Moreover, you can even sell the pellets to the neighbors to make extra profits.
Farm pellet mill is small in size. It costs less money, takes up less space and is easier to operate when compared to large scale pellet mill equipments. Here we would like to tell you some ideal biomass raw materials (yard debris and farm wastes) for pellets making.
Miscanthus

High biomass yield, low mineral content and rapid growth make miscanthus one of the best materials for making biomass pellets. The height of miscanthus can reach 3.5meters in a single growing season. Additionally, due to higher photosynthetic efficiency and lower water requirement, the plant is very easy and cost-effective to grow.
Switchgrass
Switchgrass is another ideal material for pellets. And it is outperformed by miscanthus, although the yield is only 7-11 metric tons per hectare.
Cardoon

Cardoon, kind of herbaceous plant, is seen as a feasible energy crop especially in southern Europe. The plant has a high calorific value, but it also has comparatively high ash content. In most cases, cardoon is used as a supplement to other biomass materials to make blended biomass fuel pellets.
Residues from Sunflowers
Residues from sunflowers are also available for farm pellet mills and family pellet mills. The application of sunflower residues for pellet making is very popular in Ukraine and other European countries.
