Additionally, due to higher photosynthetic efficiency and lower water requirement, the plant is very easy and cost-effective to grow.

Switchgrass

Switchgrass is another ideal material for pellets. And it is outperformed by miscanthus, although the yield is only 7-11 metric tons per hectare.

Cardoon

Cardoon, kind of herbaceous plant, is seen as a feasible energy crop especially in southern Europe. The plant has a high calorific value, but it also has comparatively high ash content. In most cases, cardoon is used as a supplement to other biomass materials to make blended biomass fuel pellets.

Residues from Sunflowers

Residues from sunflowers are also available for farm pellet mills and family pellet mills. The application of sunflower residues for pellet making is very popular in Ukraine and other European countries.
